Six companies that sell you the answer to their own question.
Every company reviewed here makes money from the heat pump decision it's helping you make — as an energy supplier, an installer, a manufacturer, or some combination of the three. That's not automatically a problem. But it's a structurally different position to ours, and it's worth understanding before you get a quote.
Why we review these companies
Most UK homeowners researching a heat pump will, sooner or later, land on one of these six companies — through an advert, a comparison site, or their existing energy supplier's own website. All six are real, established businesses that install genuine heat pumps to a professional standard. None of them are being singled out here because we think they're bad at what they do.
They're covered because each one sits on the same side of a structural line: the company giving you a survey, a recommendation and a quote is also the company that profits from the specific outcome — whether that's an energy tariff, a piece of hardware it manufactures, or a long-term subscription contract. That's a fundamentally different position from a comparison service with nothing of its own to sell.
What "positioning only" means here
Each page below explains what the company is, roughly where it sits in the market, and how buying from a vertically integrated seller structurally differs from using a neutral comparison service. Each one is scrupulously fair: we set out the genuine advantages of that model — a single point of accountability, bundled billing, a faster process — alongside the conflict. None of it is a ranking of one company against another.
What we deliberately leave out
You won't find star ratings, review counts, satisfaction percentages, price comparisons or customer quotes on any of these pages. We haven't installed a heat pump through any of these companies and have no verified data on their service quality, so we don't manufacture a score to imply we do. If you want that kind of feedback, Trustpilot and similar review platforms are the right place to look — read it there, directly, rather than through a summary.
Heat Pump Saver has no commercial relationship with, and is not affiliated with, any of the six companies covered in this section. We don't sell heat pumps, install them, supply energy, or take commission on installer sign-ups. Whichever route you're considering, getting more than one quote — including from an independent MCS installer with no wider product to sell — is the single most useful thing you can do before committing.
Energy suppliers with their own installation arm
These companies sell you gas and electricity, and also survey, size and install your heat pump. The same visit that quotes your system can also be a chance to sell you a tariff or a service plan.
Octopus Energy
Supplies energy, designs its own heat pump, and installs and services it directly or through a vetted partner network.
British Gas
The UK's longest-established supplier, applying its large in-house engineering workforce to heat pump installation.
E.ON Next
Manages survey, installation and — where relevant — a tariff switch, all through its own team.
Direct-to-consumer online retailers
No energy supply, no tariff to sell — but still a single company quoting, selling and installing its own defined range of equipment, not the whole market.
Subscription and manufacturer-backed entrants
A newer model: heat pump as an ongoing monthly service rather than a one-off purchase, which changes the shape of the incentive rather than removing it.
